How to Fix Browser Settings Altered by Malware

You may have noticed that your browser homepage, search bar or more may have changed.

There may be a couple of reasons for this. It could be that some malware has changed your browser's settings, or it could be that you have accidentally agreed to change your settings when installing an application.

    If your default search engine has been modified, follow these instructions to change them back.


    • Open Chrome

    • Paste chrome://settings/searchEngines into the search bar

    • Click the three dots next to the Search Engine you as your default

    • Click Make Default

    • Open Firefox

    • Paste about:preferences#search in the search bar

    • Click the drop-down menu under Default Search Engine

    • Choose the search engine that you would like to make the default

    • Open Edge

    • Paste edge://settings/search into the search bar

    • Click the drop-down menu

    • Choose the search engine that you would like to make default

    How do I change my home page back?

    If your default search engine has been modified, follow these instructions to change them back.


    • Paste chrome://settings/appearance into the address bar

    • Paste the URL you want to change your home page to

    • Paste about:preferences#home into the address bar

    • Click Custom URL's

    • Paste the URL you want to change your home page to

    • Paste edge://settings/startHomeNTP into the address bar

    • Paste the URL you want to change your home page to
